Meet our Intermediate School STAFF
At the Amery Intermediate School (AIS), we pride ourselves on being a special learning community that meets the unique needs of all students in grades 3, 4 and 5.
- All children have different learning styles, therefore they learn at different rates and in different ways. We want to offer the best learning environment for all students. Therefore, we offer Traditional classrooms and Montessori classrooms. We will continue to evaluate all of our learning options in order to offer our families the best educational system possible!
- Students at AIS learn in a modified traditional educational setting where learning takes place within the walls of the classroom, the outdoor environment and out in the Amery community. Most classrooms in grades 4th and 5th grade switch classes between one or two other grade-level teachers capitalizing on the teacher’s educational strengths and expertise. The 3rd grade classrooms are considered self-contained which means the students stay with the same classroom teacher all day. The average student day includes five core academic classes, two recesses and lunch. On a weekly rotating cycle students participate in Art, Music, Physical Education, Guidance, Library Skills, Keyboarding, Spanish, 4th grade recorder and 5th grade band.
- Our classrooms provide students with the building blocks for a lifelong love of learning by providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment that is focused on age-appropriate concepts and academic growth. All students benefit from the rich curriculum diversity our school offers and we treasure these opportunities to grow together. It is our mission to work together to help each child grow and develop to realize their potential.
- Our staff is dedicated to helping develop the whole child. We provide all children with a unique blend of educational experiences within our school and throughout our community. Within this context, we use student data throughout the year to guide our instructional practices to both challenge and support all of our students. The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support framework is taught and reinforced daily so that all students have the necessary skills to “Excel Like a Warrior."
How are students assessed?
Standards Based Grading (SBG), also known as Grading for Learning, communicates how students are performing on essential learning targets that are created from the Wisconsin Academic Standards. The purpose of standards-based grading is to identify what a student knows, or is able to do, in relation to pre-established learning targets, as opposed to simply averaging grades/scores over the course of a grading period, which can mask what a student has learned, or not learned, in a specific course. Amery Intermediate School Standards Based Grading information.
How often do report cards go home?
Three times per year: Tri-semesters (T1, T2 & T3)
What is PBIS? (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports)
In the fall of 2016, the Amery Intermediate School began implementing the “Warrior Way." This program uses the PBIS framework to promote positive behavior in our school. This model is consistent throughout all grades and in all environments (lunchroom, classroom, hallways, etc.). Our goal is to teach students the expected behavior, which is based on being Respectful, Responsible and Safe and to reward students with positive reinforcement.
